HOW TO KEEP YOUR OLD EMAIL ADDRESS WHEN YOU CHANGE INTERNET PROVIDER
1/ Setup a Gmail email account (Its Free) by going to www.google.ie
and click on the Gmail link top left and follow the instructions.
2/ In your new gmail account click Settings, Accounts and Import, In Send
Mail As section click "Always reply from default address" then click
Send mail from another address and fill in your old email address in the box
and follow instructions to Send verification.
3/ Go to your old email and open the message from Gmail and click on the verifacation
link.
Gmail is now set up to send emails from your old account.
OUTLOOK EXPRESS INSTRUCTIONS
4/ To setup Outlook Express click Tools, Accounts. In Mail click
your eircom account and click Properties then Servers
In Outgoing mail (SMTP) type smtp.gmail.com
At the bottom tick My server requires authentication and then click Settings
Tick Log on using and type in your new gmail address in Account name and your
gmail password and make sure Remember password is ticked.
Nearly done now! Click the advanced tab and in Outgoing Mail (SMTP) change
Outgoing Mail(SMTP) to 465 and tick "This server requires a secure connection
(SSL)"
OUTLOOK INSTRUCTIONS
(these are generic Outlook instructions and vary slightly from
version to version)
In the Account Type dropdown menu, select IMAP; enter the outgoing
server name shown below.
In the 'User Name' field, give your full Gmail address, including '@gmail.com'
After creating these settings, clicking Next takes you to the end of the setup.
In the Tools menu, select Options then Mail Setup. Under 'Email Accounts,'
click E-mail Accounts.
Select an account, and click Change above the list of accounts. Click More
Settings, then the Advanced tab.
Outgoing server can use 587, TLS encryption.Click the Outgoing Server tab.
Make sure that 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' is selected.
TEST
Send an email from your old account to someone or to yourself if
you have another account. Now reply to that email and check your old inbox
for the reply.
Thats it.
